I have started to link World War 1 soldiers to their records at the Archives. Unfortunately, there is not a list that I can follow like I did for the Halifax Memorial, so I have to choose a surname and follow that name. So it will be very difficult to get to all the soldiers. I have begun with surnames in my own family tree, then I will follow ones that pop into my head. I'm also thinking of following the Virtual Memorial of our dead soldiers, I can go by dates on that site - I may wait for that until Linsday is able to draw up some code for the Memorial site so that I can link those soldiers to the memorial and Archive site at the same time. If anyone has WW1 soldiers in their family tree that they would like to see linked right away please post on this thread and I'll do it right away. Thank You for your time.

An easy way to provide the info I need is to give me the Regimental number of the soldier ( If the soldier does not have one, then his name as it appears on the National Archives site)

For the CVWM site, the last group of numbers at the end of the soldier's web link--- an example "...Detail&casualty=2849267" That would be all I need.

Thank You

Hi Sean:

Actually, if you use the database of the Library & Archives Canada, you can "fudge" in the names to get them alphabetically.

Go to Soldiers of the First World War (1914-1918) and when prompted to enter the surname but the alphabetical letter, followed by a dollar sign (A$, for example), and you will get all the listings.

Works for all of their named databases too!

Cheers! Very Happy

To the person asking me to link Marbrick Royden Drolet, I have not been able to find him at the Archives site or the Virtual Memorial site, could there be an alternate spelling for the surname?

I had hoped to do more linking this weekend but I had a major computer "crash"!!!

Sandi thank you for the suggestion, that will help greatly!!

I will get busy linking more soldiers starting tomorrow, barring and computer problems!!!LOL

NB York District 25,Fredericton City,Carleton e-4 Page 21

Line 20 Burtt Burden

Line 22 Walter MacF. Burden (my grandfather-he changed the spelling from Burden to Burdon -enlisted under Burdon as his Attestation Papers show -because he was too young to join up)

What a great idea, Sean. Hope your computer problem is resolved.

Hi and thank you

I have linked your grandfather's records, but I could not find Burtt Burden at the Archives. Would you happen to know his Regimental number??

As far as my computer problems, I hope the problems are finished--I lost alot of files---guess I should learn to back up my stuff LOL Laughing

I can't find Burtt Burden there either and I don't have enough info on him to look further. Thanks for linking my grandfather.

These men are relatives of women who lived in Armstrong, B.C. that I am researching.

For each man I have listed his name and link to the 1901 census and then the name and link at the War Memorial

Cheryl Thomas

I have linked Alexandre Neveu to the Memorial and the Archives sites. Thank you for the info.

Rose

I have linked all the soldiers that you supplied, to the memorial site, unfortunately not all of them had Regimental numbers so I was unable to link most of them to their records at the Archive web site. Thank you very much for suppling the links to the sites, it made it much faster and easier for me to create the links!!

The link that Cheryl Thomas provided (THANKS!) is not only for Walter MacFarlane Burdn but for the elusive Burtt Burden. He had changed the spelling of his name too to Bertram A. Burdon. Isn't genealogy fun!

Thanks Sean

Here is a tricky one for you not sure if it applies but I have been researching the Foucault Family and found a J. Louis Telesphore Foucault in a Cemetery in Hawksbury Ontario with a War Marker.

He is Listed here under the name Toni but with the same Birthday as I have.

http://automatedgenealogy.com/census/index.html

37 7 Fourault Toni M Son S Dec 15 1896 4

He Joined for the 59 th S & G Regiment , 77th Over Seas Battallion

In the Archives he is listed but is not in the War Memorial page

Names: FOUCAULT , LEWIS
Regimental number: 145198
Reference: RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 3238 - 57

He Died 12 Aug 1967 in Hawksbury Ontario .

There is another Joseph Foucault listed in the War Memorial listed as Son of Mrs. Telesphore Foucault

JOSEPH FOUCAULT
who died on January 4, 1917.

Military Service:
Service Number: 145199
Age: 30
Force: Army
Regiment: Canadian Infantry (Quebec Regiment)
Unit: 73rd Bn

It could be this Joseph but I have no proof.
