Lines 8 to 16 on Page 10 of the Edmonton 71 census at http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/census11/View.jsp?id=9909&highlight=12&desc=1911+Census+of+Canada+page+containing+Charles+Nix%3F are my grandparents and relatives. The name Nix? is definitely spelled Nix. The name Leske? in the same household should be spelled Leake. It is difficult to read the thick writing on the original census page.

Srdyck,

Lines 8-12 - The surname has been corrected to "Nix"; and
Lines 13-16 - The surname has been corrected to "Leake".

Thanks,

Ref.: 1901 census PE QUEEN'S (East/Est) (#135) Subdistrict: Lot (township/canton) 49 H-1 Page 18 Line 2 (Family 155) Inez R. (Rhoda) Judson

This reference is linked to the 1911 census: / 1911 / Prince Edward Island / Queens / 36 Part - Township 49 / page 7 unsplit view Line 46

This is Athol A. (Alexander) Judson, male I believe the date of birth to be correct

To explain my confidence in this suggested correction: He was my bachelor uncle who lived his whole life in our family household. Bruce Forsyth Judson was my father.

Nowhere in our family lore have I ever heard of John Judson in the same family. Inez's husband Isaac had a brother John; is it possible he was a temporary resident?

Line 47 - the given name has been corrected to "Bruce F"

I am not sure as to which census and which line you are refering for Athol A.

Thanks,

Sorry to be so dense as not to know how to reference the census properly.

I was looking at the 1901 census. There was a link on Line 18 which took me to the 1911 census.

1911 Census of Canada
Home / 1911 / Prince Edward Island / Queens / 36 Part - Township 49 / page 7

Line 48 currently reads:
48 73 Judson Ethel H F Daughter S Mar 1905 6 1901

Corrected Line 48 should read:

48 73 Judson Athol A M Son S Mar 1905 6 1901

Thanks ... I much appreciate the opportunity to help.

Irwin,

Line 48 - The given name has been corrected to "Ethel A" which is what the enumerator wrote. As PEI vital stats are not published on the web, a line note was added to states that the name is "Athol A".

What if I find an error in the original census?
If the error is in the original census document:

- a surname note provides an alternate surname spelling and allows the members of this family to be identified in the result of a search done on this alternate spelling. When entering a surname note, indicate if it applies to the entire family or only to this individual. Also, please include the bibliographical reference to the source that corroborates the surname provided, and if applicable, add an associated note.

You will find much more information on this at Surname Notes

-for a discrepancy in the given name, gender, and/or date of birth - an online or off-line birth record link is the preferred way to annotate the correct information.

Cheers,

Hi Alain,

I still fail to understand. Sorry!

There is no problem with the surname. It is the given name, gender and relationship where the fault lies. The link to the Surname Notes doesn't help with these needed corrections.

On the new census page the current values and the corrected values are identical; I can't seem to find a way to make the corrections.

So... to help move this thing along...

Following is the URL of the PEI baptismal records for Athol A. Judson, and the record therefrom.

http://www.gov.pe.ca/archives/baptismal/results.php

Child's Full Name Birth Date Baptism Date Mother's Name Father's Name Birth Place Baptism Place
1 Judson, Athol Alexander 5 March 1905 13 March 1906 Inez Judson Isaac Judson Alexandra

I see you are "Automated Genealogy.com". Are you the "official" repository?

Where to from here? Please advise.

Irwin

Irwin,

The official policy is to transcribe the info as written on the the census form.
Not to make corrections to the info which forms the official record.
Records with erroneous data on the original census are not corrected in the transcription, but are anotated via either surname note, links, or a line note.

The line note has been amended to read: "Error in the census. The actual field entries should be: given name: "Athol Alexander", Sex: "M", Relationship: "Son"."
A link to the baptism record was also added.

Quote:
What do I do with errors in the original Census Form?
Where the enumerator has made a spelling error in a name or one of the other values seems to be in error, the transcription must reflect the information entered by the enumerator. For an error in the surname, the proper spelling can be provided for the first family member listed through the use of a surname note, which will ensure these individuals are included in the search result. For an error in the given name, gender, or age, an off-line birth record could be added, including its bibliographical reference.

Cheers,

Correction of error in enumerator's record in 1911 census:

Judson Inez M 37 Prince Edward Island Queens Part - Township 49 36 7 46

should read: Judson Inez R

authorities:

1. personal knowledge-Inez Rhoda Judson was my grandmother
2. extract from 1901 census of PEI: ]UDSON INEZ R. 28 METHODIST 49

Irwin,

Line 46 - the given name has been corrected to "Inez, Vve", which is what the enumerator wrote; where Vve is the French abbreviation for Widow.

The link to 1901 exist.

Thanks,
