Given name should be spelled THEARN NANCEKIVELL. I have been in touch with the direct descendants and Thearn is the correct spelling. Cheers, S

Also, this family of SAMUEL NANCEKIVELL and FANNY in 1911 can be linked up with the 1901 census here:
http://automatedgenealogy.com/census/Vi ... ancekivell

and in 1891 census, S(amuel) E(dwin) NANCEKIVELL
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/data ... jv3poc8qr1

+ 1891 census, Fanny NANCEKIVELL
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/data ... jv3poc8qr1

Pls note in the 1891 census record, under SE and Fanny is listed a 7 month old child, Guy Hardy BURR. Note the entry of the household above is a young couple named BURR. It would appear that Fanny might have been minding the neighbours' child. Was it common practise for the census taker to list small infants like this? This could get very confusing if your children were off playing somewhere else when the census taker came calling! LOL

TOphotog,

I checked the original page and the enumerator definitely wrote the given name of line 14 as "Thoarn".
It is the policy of this site to transcribe the names as written by the enumerator.

What if I find an error in the original census?
If the error is in the original census document:

- a surname note provides an alternate surname spelling and allows the members of this family to be identified in the result of a search done on this alternate spelling. When entering a surname note, indicate if it applies to the entire family or only to this individual. Also, please include the bibliographical reference to the source that corroborates the surname provided, and if applicable, add an associated note.

You will find much more information on this at Surname Notes

-for a discrepancy in the given name, gender, and/or date of birth - an online or off-line birth record link is the preferred way to annotate the correct information.

Cheers,
