The surnames on lines 14, 15 and 16 of page 14 of the 1911 Census Quebec/Chambly-Vercheres/8 St. Lambert Town are incorrect. Instead of Brauton, the surname should read Brereton. I know this because George Brereton the person listed on line 14 was my grandfather. There is a further error with the year of birth shown for Robert on line 15. The year shown is 1883. It should be 1894. This information is confirmed on his Attestation Paper when he enlisted during the First World War. This document may be viewed on the Library and Archives of Canada site by searching for Robert Baker Brereton # 50526.

Lloyd,

Lines 14-16 - the surname has been corrected to "Brareton" which is what the enumerator wrote.
Line 15 - no correction to the year of birth because the enumerator wrote 1883.

The 1911-WW I link has been done for Robert and George.

What if I find an error in the original census?
If the error is in the original census document:

- a surname note provides an alternate surname spelling and allows the members of this family to be identified in the result of a search done on this alternate spelling. When entering a surname note, indicate if it applies to the entire family or only to this individual. Also, please include the bibliographical reference to the source that corroborates the surname provided, and if applicable, add an associated note.

You will find much more information on this at Surname Notes

-for a discrepancy in the given name, gender, and/or date of birth - an online or off-line birth record link is the preferred way to annotate the correct information.

Cheers,
