Post subject: | 1911 census name correction |
In the 1911 census for Victoria British Columbia, district 13 subdistrict 5 page 9, transcribed by Sheila Windsor, lines 24 through 29 the names have been transcribed wrong. The family has been given the number 92 in the second column. the names should read, Richard Hodgkinson, Annie Hodgkinson, Walter Yeamans,(he is actually Richard and Annie's son in law), Annie Hodgkinson, Richard Hodgkinson, and lastly Doris Hodgkinson. The reason I can confirm this is Richard and Annie are my great grandparents and the young Richard that is listed (b. 1893) is my grandad. Thank you for giving the opportunity to correct the names. Ref.: 1911 / British Columbia / Victoria / 5 Victoria / page 9 Penny, Line 24, 25, 27, 28, 29 - The surnames has been corrected to "Hodgkins", which is what I read the enumerator wrote. It has the same soundex code as Hodgkinson: H325, therefore no alternate surname. Line 24 - the given name was corrected to "Richard"; Line 25 - the given name was corrected to "Annie"; Line 26 - the surname was corrected to "Yeamans" and the given name was corrected to "Walter"; Line 27 - the given name was corrected to "Annie"; Line 29 - the given name was corrected to "Doras", which is what I read the enumerator wrote. What if I find an error in the original census? If the error is in the original census document: - a surname note provides an alternate surname spelling and allows the members of this family to be identified in the result of a search done on this alternate spelling. When entering a surname note, indicate if it applies to the entire family or only to this individual. Also, please include the bibliographical reference to the source that corroborates the surname provided, and if applicable, add an associated note. You will find much more information on this at Surname Notes -for a discrepancy in the given name, gender, and/or date of birth - an online or off-line birth record link is the preferred way to annotate the correct information.
