Reference: Ontario / TORONTO (West/Ouest) (City/Cité) / Ward/Quartier No. 4 B-42 / Page 3, Line 28

The Field Value Correction Note for Line 28, New, Jacob H , suggests that the surname field should be corrected to "Reid". I believe the surname is "New", and that the Field Note Correction Note should be deleted.

I think that there are two different pen marks on the first letter of the surname. The original mark is darker and is the letter "N"; the second mark, the circle at the top of the "N", is lighter, similar to the corrections found in columns 1 and 2. The two marks together do make the first letter look like an "R", but I suggest the first, darker mark is part of the letter, while the second, lighter mark is not. Also, see examples of the enumerator's "R" on Lines 26 and 29, neither of which are the same as the suggested "R" in Line 28.

Also, see Jacob and Ryland New enumerated in the 1911 Census, on Lines 42 and 43.

For a third-party source of the name Jacob New, see Business and History - National Sewer Pipe Limited. The third and fourth paragraphs of the article (beginning "National Sewer Pipe Limited is a family business...") describe Jacob New and his son Ryland H New (enumerated in Line 29). The article, dated May 1967, lists Ryland New's age at 78, which would put his date of birth in 1888 or 1889 (actual dob: 16-July-1888), which is (almost: 1 day off) confirmed by the census data, Line 29.

John,

The suggested correction has been deleted and links were done for New Jacb H. and New Ryland.

Thanks,
