According to some web site searches the 1921 census is ready but put on hold, because only "3 little old ladies in Kingston" would be interested in it. Here is one web site with the info

About the "Free part" - Ancestry seems to want me to upgrade to a World membership to view it....

1921 Census of Canada was released online today - free

Library and Archives Canada (LAC) released the 1921 Canadian Census today via Ancestry. It is available, with the geographic index, free of charge on Ancestry.ca's Canadian Census Records page.

Here is more on this development: "Ancestry should be releasing a full nominal index this fall. This index will be available to their subscribers for 3 years. After that, LAC will get a copy and will make it available for free off of our census platform that was entirely redesigned recently.

As you know, it's too bad we couldn't make it available on June 1st. But that being acknowledged, I think we can celebrate the fact that the 1921 census will be on-line and fully indexed in a matter of weeks rather than the six years it took for the 1911 one. Practice makes better!" Many of you helped make this so by clearly and loudly expressing your concerns about the political decision to put the public release of the 1921 Canadian Census on indefinite hold. That ground swell of concern has borne fruit.

LAC to responds to questions asked by our readers: "After 3 years, the census and the nominal index goes back to LAC's free site. Access to the census will always be free, whether on Ancestry or LAC."
