I've been working very hard for the last 5 years or so in each of the censuses. Lots of transcriptions, linkings, checkings, requests for corrections. Maybe 50,000 transactions done so far. But I find that the execution of requests for corrections by the original transcriptors is very slow or inexistant. Is there a way that I could be given a status of universal corrector, remembering that I never make a request for correction without looking at the original writings and correcting as written.

I am a fellow volunteer, focusing mostly on 1901 proofreading, for a similar length of time. Of course the person best positioned to review suggested changes is the transcriber because they would have become familiar with the enumerator's style and quirks, and they often have personal knowledge of the district. The problem is that many of the transcribers have not logged in for some time. This issue has been discussed before on these pages and there is general reluctance to open things too widely as we don't want to lose the high standard of quality that this project is know for.

There are a handful of volunteers who have been assigned adjudication privileges and are slowly working at reviewing unattended proofing notes and disputes. In my case I have this ability for 1901 only and have focused on Quebec because of personal interest. Of course I am not permitted to adjudicate my on suggested changes. From time to time the adjudicators have responded to requests for attention to a particular page or sub-district as posted on these message boards, but please keep in mind that we are all volunteers. Please also ensure that sufficient time has passed to be sure that the transcriber is not still active but temporarily away.

I'll also use this occasion to extend my personal thanks to those transcribers who have stayed active. As a proofreader, it is tremendously satisfying to get immediate feedback on one's suggestions. (I think particularly of Jonathan Hamilton in the areas I've been working in.)

Your read well: FOUR years ago. That's the aunt of my father 'Marchand' instead of 'Maifield'.

It's finished for me. In FOUR years, not even a single appreciation or communication was received from Automated, after 50,000 transactions. I linked all the Quebec city region (100,000) individuals plus all the huge rest.

You don't even propose that I get a privileged status.

So, I decided to move to familysearch.org where they maintain a very close attachment with contributors.

I have adjudicated this subdistrict in full.

I noticed that the transcriber neglected to transcribe crossed out lines, so I have done so, adding about a dozen lines. (See "lignes rayees" here http://automatedgenealogy.com/census/Tr ... on_FR.html). It would be helpful if you could review these and add any corrections that you think appropriate as I've left a number of question marks. As you know better than me, this enumerator has challenging writing and you've done a great job at figuring out many of the mysteries. The new lines are indentified by line notes I've added reading "Line crossed out".

You worked very well in that Subdistrict, mostly badly written by the enumerator. But, I love those hard pages and you cleaned them remarkably well. As you probably noticed, during the last 2 years, I already established a large number of links mainly in the east of the province, which greatly eases the correction process when you proofread. I also linked a great number of 1914-18 soldiers. By the same token, during the linking process, I asked for a great number of corrections mainly in the case of name errors.

I thank you as well for recalling me the transcription rules, written in french. For sure, I printed those very worthy pages.

Since you work so well, I'll certainly propose you other adjudication projects after a well-deserved rest.
