Dan,
Before searching for a specific village/town in the 1901 or 1911 census, one must first know when that village/town was founded.
Also looking at the description of a town (i.e. the town web site) will give you some clues where to look.
For example
New Denver is described as:
New Denver (population: 560) today sits quietly on the shore of Slocan Lake in the Slocan Valley, location of the 1890s silver mining boom.
Therefore that area is in the Slocan riding of the Kootenay district in the 1911 census and in the Kootenay West - Slocan (Riding/Division) of the Yale & Caribou in the 1901 census but the name "New Denver" may not yet exist.
Hope this help,
