I have been unable to locate my grand parents in the 1911 auto census, however when Ancestry offered a free search I tried their's and found Herinton corrected to Thornton. That name was not available in your auto censu, so using the district and sub listed by Ancestry I found Wernton and family. Wernton is incorrect and should read Thornton. William H. and Edith were my grand parents and Avilda N. was my mother.
Surprisingly a William James is listed in both 1911 censuses, a name I have never been aware of and was never voiced by my grand parents or my mother. I presumed he die before the 1921 census as he is not listed there, I wiil search the registrations for an answer.

Thank you;.......Douglas Wilford Parliament

Hello,

Your family can be found on the Automatedgenealogy site. under the surname Wernton in 1911.

http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/ ... th+Wernton

I asked for a correction to Thornton. The writing of the enumerator is not so clear, but as you confirm the real name, the change to Thornton is acceptable.

Unfortunately, I don't have the right to make the update right away in 1911. Another adjudicator could however do it.

Other searches say that William H. Thornton was born in 1882, in Cambray, Ontario, and that he got married in Orillia on 3 september 1903 to Edith J. Burrison, 19, of Midland, born in Sturgeon Bay.

So, I established the links with 1901 for both Edith and William, who is enumerated as a sawyer in 1901 just like in 1911.

Just click on 'Links' at the right of the census page to view both 1901 and 1911.

Thanks so much for your message which helps the updating.

Michel Dubois, Quebec City.

Hi Douglas and Michel,

The surname correction to the 1911 census from Wornton to Thornton has been accepted.

Thanks,
