I am dealing with a difficult linking situation involving Théophile Dagenais: I am not sure whether all the records represent the same person (if not, they must have been first cousins: it is common for first cousins to have the same name and similar ages). I currently have four records linked (two from 1881, one from 1901, one from 1911), as can be seen here: http://automatedgenealogy.com/census/Vi ... ghlight=29 I have since found two more records: This one in 1901: http://automatedgenealogy.com/census/Vi ... ghlight=10 And also Maisonneuve, subdistrict 63, page 26, line 46 in 1911. These last two are clearly the same person (from the marriage record), and thus also the same who lived with his parents in 1881. The question is, is he the same person as the other Théophile Dagenais, who lived with his aunt? In 1891, I could only find one Théophile, living with the aunt, not the parents. If there were two different persons, then my links have to be split, but as of now, I have no idea. All comments welcome. Gilbert Benoît Ottawa |

Gilbert, In the linked records there are two 1881 census entries for 7 yr old Theophile Dagenais, one with parents and one with aunt. In 1891, the parents of 7 yr old Theophile Dagenais listed in 1881 are listed without him. There are two Theophile Dagenais, one 13 yr old with parents but this is a different set of parents from the one in 1881; and one 14 yr old with aunt. I checked BMS 2000 for marriage of Theophile Dagenais (father in 1881) whose spouse name is Caroline and obtain the following two results: Men's name / Women's name / Date / Location DAGENAIS Théophile / GRAVES Caroline / 1850 / Sorel, Richelieu, Q... DAGENAIS Theophile / VERSAILLES Caroline / 1872 / Montréal, Ile-de-Mo... But only Theophile Dagenais who married Caroline Versailles could be 31 yr old in 1881. Also checked BMS 2000 for marriage of Dagenais (Men) whose spouse suname is Versailles and obtain the following result: Men's name / Women's name / Date / Location DAGENAIS Theophile / VERSAILLES Caroline / 1872 / Montréal, Ile-de-Mo... As the 1881 Aunt's name is Emelie VERSAILLES, she is most likely the mother of Caroline Versailles above. I also checked BMS 2000 for baptism of Theophile Dagenais between 1870 and 1880 wth only one result: Name / Date / Location DAGENAIS J. Théophile Augustin Bruno / 1877 / Montreal (Sault-au-Récollet), Ile-... Therefore my conclusion is that the two Theophile Dagenais listed in 1881 that are linked together is the same individual; i.e.enumerated twice, once witn his parents then a second time with his aunt. I also think that they are probably the same person, but it is strange seeing him enumerated twice twenty years apart. Also, please remember that BMS2000 does not have baptisms for all parishes. I am also uneasy about him being married in one 1911 record and not the other, but in my experience the data recorded for these dock workers was not very reliable... |

Gilbert, In 1901, the occupation is charretier in one and Chartier (most likely charetier) in the other; which add more weight that they are the same individual. As for 1911 the one married to Clementine Guernon (GUERNON Marie-Dalcé according to BMS 2000), whose occupation is peintre; and the other one, the lodger, whose occupation is debardeur de port are most likely not the same individual. As to if one was the same individual as the one in 1881/1901, I was not able to come to any conclusion. My gut feeling is that Theopile the lodger is the brother of Amable listed on the line above, if that is the case he is not the same individual as the one in 1901/1881. Cheers, |
