This morning, family linking is broken. I can create new links successfully, but when I click on Family linking, it brings me to a different family. I tried it twice with the same result. Yet, when I navigate back to these entries, the links are actually correct.

See http://automatedgenealogy.com/census/View.jsp?id=80124&highlight=17

This problem does not occur with existing links; just new ones.

Hi Gilbert -

There have been significant problems with the site all weekend, originating from the server host. The problems are not yet solved and what is up at present seems to be an archived version of the site several years out of date. If you are able to access the site (much of the time it has not been accessible) we recommend not making any changes (corrections, links, etc.) as they will likely be lost when a more current version is restored.

Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for all you have done over the years.

Mark

OK, thanks a lot. I will refrain from further activity, and when the site is back to normal, if my three links from today are still there, I will double check them.

Even now that so much more is available on line, I still find the site extremely useful (because of the linking, and also the search capabilities which are so much better than the National Archives'...).

WE'RE BACK IN BUSINESS! I've had a look and it should reflect where we left off up to Friday. Lindsay assured me that there are back-ups made regularly and at most we would lose a week or two of work, but before he turned to a back-up he needed to understand what went wrong in the first place.

And thanks for your positive comments about the search capability and the linking. I heartily agree and would add the quality of the transcription from all the local knowledge and research on the part of the volunteer transcribers, proofreaders, and adjudicators.

Thanks and keep well. Mark

Yes, the transcription quality (post proofreading!) is so much better than what the National Archives got from Ancestry!! And even when the names were really mangled in the original, then the superior searching still helps in locating people.

It was really too bad that we lost the 1881 LDS links (given the effort that had gone in creating them; what a waste...).
