The buildup of spam users on the old message boards had become ridiculous so we're starting from scratch with newer version of the software. |

Lindsay, If we are actually starting from scratch, will the previous version of the message board still be online concurrently with this one so that I could transfer (copy and paste) a few announcement and sticky appropriate to each census (or I could do this once the forums are established and prior to be open to the public). Afterward the previous version of the message board should be available for viewing only for at least 6 months. And last what will happen to the 1906 corrections forum where there are many posts of corrections that still need to be evaluated and implemented where applicable. Cheers, Alain |

I'm thinking I will lock the old message board so that it can be read but not posted to, and no new registrations. The 1906 Corrections is a bit tricky because we won't be able to post that a correction will be made. Possibly we could have a moderator remove or edit the old posts when they are dealt with. I've set up a partial set of forums for linking forums, what do you think of having a forum for each type of link instead of threads in a single forum? |

Well, we're already behind the 8-ball! It certainly doesn't take the spammers long to find and break the new boards! |

No it doesn't, and that is slightly discouraging. On the bright side, there aren't any spam users registered. Although I hate to put up barriers to participation I have changed the permissions so that Guest users cannot post except in the Guest Questions forum. We can still hope that the spam bots won't get past the registration captchas, or at least not on mass. Guest postings also can not have signatures or use BB codes, which means they can't post links, so I don't think it will do them any good to post. We'll see how it goes. |

Well, we get another test; 13 posts by trialoVal to promote a website. The [banning] seemed to work, don't know just how effective. |

Well, the new administration panel has a delete user button with the option to delete all of their posts too. I imagine it will get old soon but for now there is a certain satisfaction in clicking that button. ![]() |
