Hello,

A subdistrict needing a heavy workload of corrections:

http://automatedgenealogy.com/census/En ... sp?id=6714

I'll resume on proofreading after adjudication.

Cheers,

Michel Dubois.

Hi Michel -

I am in the midst of adjudicating in the Pontiac for 1901 but would be happy to turn to your subdistrict once I've finished there.

Thanks. Mark

Hello Mark,

I saw that you worked on page 1. Thx so much. Good work. I pushed the research on Louis Duteau, actually a protestant reverend whose real name was Louis Roussy Dutaud, married to Egerie Eva Vary. So, I left those corrections on page 1.

BTW, in the task of proofreading, I often use the Marcotte directories, edited for Quebec City and Levis mostly annually between 1822 and 1920. Those directories available online show heads of the families in alphabetical order and by street adresses. Since we can pick the street addresses in the 1901 and 1911 censuses, the Marcotte directories are very useful to find badly written names.

If you didn't use those so far, here is the address on Archives Nationales web site:

http://bibnum2.banq.qc.ca/bna/marcotte/

Unfortunately, the directory aren't available for 1901-1902 and for 1911-12. However, the surrounding years are quite helpful to decipher unproper writings of the names.

See you then,

Michel.

Hi Michel -

The Marcotte directories suggestion is very much appreciated. I use the Lovells at the BNQ site all the time for Montreal but didn't know about Marcotte for Quebec.

The sugggestion was perfectly timed as I've been spending a lot of time trying to figure out household 79 on page 8. Within minutes of going to Marcotte I found them as Denis Davis at 60 Ste-Marguerite! And then I found them in 1911 as confirmation (now linked). What do you think of the way I have represented his given name(s), with the comma? The alternative is as "James Denis".

I'm nowhere close to finishing adjudicating in the Pontiac, but I didn't want to keep you waiting too long. I'm glad to hear that you noticed my work in your requested sub-district so quickly. I'll keep at it as time allows.

Cheers, Mark

Hi Michel -

I am on page 5 now and have just been alerted by someone else's correct that conflicts with one of yours that we have both been making a minor error. It concerns the best translation for Pensionnaire. Some work was done by Alain Dawson on relationships as per this link: http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/ ... ships.html

Pensionnaire is best transcribed as Boarder while Logeur would be Lodger. I'll go back over the pages we have already completed and change the few entries involved and will follow Alain's guidance from now on.

Thanks. Mark

Hello Mark,

I noticed your remarks about 'logeur' and 'pensionnaire'. Thx for that precision.

Your adjudication work is progressing remarkably well.

I went back though on page 4 to change a correction I made. At first, I suggested a 'Lemieux' family surname on line 44 and after a second look and extensive research, I found the family under 'Germain' living in Ottawa in the 1881 census on LAC.

Your advice would be appreciated.

Thx again,

Michel.

Location: Ottawa
Ref.: QU, QUÉBEC (City/Cité) (East/Est), Quebec (City/Cité) (East/Est) Jacques-Cartier (Ward/Quartier), a-11, Page: 4

Mark & Michel,

Line 44 - I read Germain for the surname.

Cheers,

Alain

Hello Mark,

After your adjudication, I revised page 15 which had already been proofread by another member and suggested additional corrections after some more research to establish the proper links.

http://automatedgenealogy.com/census/Vi ... City%2FCité%29+%28East%2FEst%29+Jacques-Cartier+%28Ward%2FQuartier%29+QUÉBEC+%28City%2FCité%29+%28East%2FEst%29+QUEBEC

So, I would appreciate a new look at on that page.

Thx again for your appreciable support and effort.

Michel.

Hi Michel -

Done.

Are you aware that in 1901 (but 1911) you can claim second proofreader status?

Cheers, Mark

PS - You have added changes to household numbers on the final 3 pages of this sub-district. The key with hh #s is that they be unique and reflect the hh breaks shown. Beyond these elements it is less important that they reflect exactly what is shown (a "nice to have" rather than a "need to have"). It will be a major job to redo the 3 remaining and not worth my effort or extra time on your part (I note that for the most part you have put the proofreader's note for the head only so far).

Hello Mark,

Thanks for your excellent work on that heavy updating.

I noticed your remark about the updating of hh.

Hope to see you again. There is still a lot to accomplish.

Have a good week.

Michel.
