Thank you for the making this census information available!

I discovered my great grandfather listed in the 1911 Census as Gillett Fred (Ontario/Lennox&Addington/7CamdenTownship/page9 - on line 48). His surname was actually Gillott. Could this please be corrected in the transcription?

I am not sure how to include a link, but I have attempted to do so below.

Ref.: 1911 / Ontario / Lennox and Addington / 7 Camden Township / page 9

Line 48-the enumerator clearly wrote Gillett for the surname. The policy of this web site is to transcribe the name as written by the enumerator.

What if I find an error in the original census?
If the error is in the original census document:

- a surname note provides an alternate surname spelling and allows the members of this family to be identified in the result of a search done on this alternate spelling. When entering a surname note, indicate if it applies to the entire family or only to this individual. Also, please include the bibliographical reference to the source that corroborates the surname provided, and if applicable, add an associated note.

You will find much more information on this at Surname Notes

-for a discrepancy in the given name, gender, and/or date of birth - an online or off-line birth record link is the preferred way to annotate the correct information.

Cheers,
Sorry,

Meaghan,

I note from the image that the enumerator has your great grandfather being born in Ontario.
Given that, as Alain has pointed out, that A.G. can only transcribe what is written, the easiest way to show alternate (or incorrect spellings) is to link to other sources where the spelling is correct.

I have been unsuccessful (thus far) in locating the Gillott family in the 1901 Census and the Soldiers of WWI data set. I have even tried the LAC Ontario births data set with no luck.

Do you know what his parents names might be; any siblings; or any other data source which may contain the correct spelling?

Cheers

Dan
