I cannot find my Monkhouse family in the BC 1911 census or even the Canada one. They lived in Sardis, part of Chilliwack. I understood the census was complete. I know they were there then. |

Marjorie, There are 5 Monkhouse (Joseph, Margaret, William, Thomas, and Joseph) listed in 1911, British Columbia, New Westminster, Chilliwack riding 35, page 26. If these are not your Monkhouse, I noticed that there were surname in New Westminster district that were unreadable (surname starting with "?"). They may be amongst one of those. Sorry, This is all the help that Ican provide with the limited info you provided. Cheers, |

Marjorie, In addition to what Alain has written (and we always hope that the family wasn't simply missed) I found an Allen Monkhouse in the BC City Directories for 1909 listed as a blacksmith, living on Sardis Road in Sardis. (Search 1909 - Other Regions - Chilliwack. The entry is found on page 179). I searched the 1911 Census looking for Sardis Road with no luck (yet). This Allen Monkhouse dies at the age of 61 in Sardis (per BC Archives Death Registration) 18 Aug 1929. The LDS record of the BC Death Record shows that he was married at the time of death to a Sarah Ellen Monkhouse (she dies 26 Apr 1952 also in Sardis). I think you will find this family in the 1901 Census; http://automatedgenealogy.com/census/Vi ... +Monkhouse I am guessing that this may your Monkhouse family . I hope this helps Dan |
