Ref.: A. 1911 / Ontario / Lambton East / 1 Bosanquet / page 4 B. 1911 / Ontario / Grey North / 48 Owen Sound / page 7 C. 1911 / Ontario / Toronto Centre / 50 ward 4 / page 4 D. 1911 / Ontario / Nipissing / 107 North Bay / page 12 E. 1911 / Ontario / Simcoe North / 39 Collingwood / page 1 F. 1911 / Ontario / Algoma West / 5 Johnston / page 1 G. 1911 / Ontario / Hamilton West / 21 ward 5 / page 5 The scribe40, I examine the image for the 13 occurances of Carmichal in Ontario listed in the above references and found that the enumerator wrote "Carmichal" on the original document in all cases except for ref. G, line 50. For this single instance, the surname was corrected to "Carmichael". What if I find an error in the original census? If the error is in the original census document: - a surname note provides an alternate surname spelling and allows the members of this family to be identified in the result of a search done on this alternate spelling. When entering a surname note, indicate if it applies to the entire family or only to this individual. Also, please include the bibliographical reference to the source that corroborates the surname provided, and if applicable, add an associated note. You will find much more information on this at Surname Notes -for a discrepancy in the given name, gender, and/or date of birth - an online or off-line birth record link is the preferred way to annotate the correct information.
