Ideally in this census and others blank lines should be added to represent empty lines so that there is no doubt that these aren't partially transcribed paged. If you look at other counties in 1852 you will see that almost pages show 50 lines. Here is an example of a page I transcribed in Sherbrooke Co. where I added blank lines to bring the total to 50: http://automatedgenealogy.com/census52/ ... p?id=48427

It seems that a different form was used in Quebec Co. (perhaps elsewhere) that only had room for about 20 lines per page and that all lines on the pages were rarely filled. The transcriber on the page you flagged was probably used to the standard 50-line pages used elsewhere so added the extra empty lines - ideally he should have stopped at 20. While this isn't perfect, it has no practical negative impact as it will not change anyone's ability to search the index or read the transcription. Similarly, it probably isn't worth your or other transcribers' time to add blank lines to bring the totals to 20 on the other pages.

Thanks for your notice. For sure, I know the usual practice in the case of pages partially written. However, the Quebec city 1852 census contains 6880 pages partially fulfilled (one HH per page). Each of those pages displays the exact number of transcribed lines.

BTW, I have been working on the transcription of those pages for the last 5 years, which means 30,000 entries, most of them checked against the 1852 Marcotte directory and BMS2000. So, the quality of data will be at a higher level. I shall complete the work next summer.

As you know, there is also a very useful function in AG allowing to check the entries against LAC and I can tell you that level of errors is very high on the LAC side. So far, I sent them at least 2,000 requests for corrections and it seems that they don't have the sufficient crews to follow-up. They updated about 30 to 40% of the requests I sent. Thefore, I stopped sending them requests for corrections.
