How exactly do I become a member of this site.

Thanks for you interest. Because this message board was inundated with spam users several months ago, new membership was cut off.

As a result of your inquiry, new membership has now been temporarily reopened, although an additional step of an administrator approval has been added.

Thanks for the reply. I think I have actually registered ... I have a login and password but I guess it has not yet been approved. I' will a day or so and see what happens. Cheers

Just to clarify, are you trying to register on the automatedgenealogy.com site as a volunteer or on this message board, because my response assumed the later?

If you tried to register on the AG site all should be well for you. If it is for this message board would you mind trying again as we may not have had the setting properly set?
