Apparently the 'fix' to the 1906 Search, because of web crawlers, is causing me a problem. I need to search for a family whose surname is Hebert. Going to Manitoba and choosing 'H' from the Surname Index the results indicate that there were (5) H?bert, (55) Hebert(with an accent over the first e) and (109) Hebert(with no accent). Choosing the 55 Hebert(with accent) takes me instead to the 5 H?bert.

Joe,

The problem you are experiencing is not the result of the 'fix' to the 1906 Search, because of web crawlers, it is due to the search that currently does not recognise accented letter in search criteria. A search on a given surname without accented letter will return in the search result all occurances of that surname with and without accent letters.

I.e Selecting the surname without accented letter (such as Herbert) will display in the search result
all occurences of Hebert and of Hébert.

Cheers,

Alain

Thanks for the response Alain but it's not working that way. I have found out the fellow I'm researching parents for was born in St. Boniface in 1907 so there's a chance his parents were there in 1906. St. Boniface is in the Provencher district of Manitoba. If you go to SubDistrict 19A and look at the Surname listing you will find 13 Hébert(I finally found out how to make that character). There are no Hebert listed. Clicking on Hébert takes you to the H?bert search which finds nothing but changing it to Hebert also finds nothing.
