Beth,

Lines 12-20 - The surname has been corrected to "Balsill"which is what I read the enumerator wrote.

The 1901-1911 links have been done for Balsillie James, Nellie, Arthur, Beatrice, Lawrence, Nellie, and Audrey.
I was not able to quickly find them in 1906 to do the links.

Is this him in 1881 census:

Name Marital Status Gender Ethnic Origin Age Birthplace Occupation Religion
John BALLSILLIE M Male Scottish 40 Scotland Accountant Presbyterian
Adelaide BALSILLIE M Female Scottish 29 M <Manitoba> Roman Catholic
Agnes BALSILLIE Female Scottish 11 M <Manitoba> Roman Catholic
Mabel BALSILLIE Female Scottish 6 M <Manitoba> Roman Catholic
James BALSILLIE Male Scottish 4 M <Manitoba> Roman Catholic
Eveline BALSILLIE Female Scottish 2 M <Manitoba> Roman Catholic
Emily BALSILLIE Female Scottish 1 M <Manitoba> Roman Catholic

If so I will do the link.

Thanks,

Beth,
In addition to the links Alain has provided, I have linked all family members to the 1906 Census (MB Winnipeg 3B Page 77) and;
Linked what I could easily see from the MB Vital Statistics site and the WWl linking site. These include;
James Balsillie marriage to Elena Pruden 26 Jun 1891;
Arthur James Balsillie birth and marriage (to Martha Havercost 17 Mar 1913) and enlistment for WWl;
Bertha Beatrice Balsillie birth;
Lawrence Randal Balsillie birth and enlistment for WWl;
Ellen (Nellie) Balsillie birth and marriage (to Austin John Dalziel 01 Oct 1921);
Audrey Balsillie marriage (no birth registration) (to Frank Albert Nesbitt 21 Jun 1922;
Edward Wellington Balsillie birth registration and finally;
Merle Alexandria Balsillie death registration 12 May 1932 (no birth registration)

Hope this helps

Cheers

Dan

Thank you so much for the links. But Please be Very careful because there are Two very different Balsillie families. It seems they all like the same names. My husband is the great grandson of James and Ellen(Pruden). In 1891 you will find James Balsillie, single, living in Lisgar, St.Paul Manitoba with his grandparents Peter and Euphemy Flett. In 1881 he is still in the same place with the same family but the name is spelled James Ballsly. James claims his father's name is John Balsillie and his mother is Ann Flett (b.1842-d.1926) but he was born the same time John and Adelaide were married. I have been trying to link the families but can't.

John and Adelaide(Rowand) were married in 1867 with Agnes, Emily,Eveline, Beatrice, Mabel, Hugh, George, James Allen Rolwand Balsillie Born 1976. This family lived in Winnipeg for the 1881 , 1891,1901, and 1906 Census Note Adelaide died in 1988 and John died in 1906. This family left Winnipeg after 1906.

Beth,

1881 James BALLSLY has been linked to 1901-1906-1911-Marriage record of Balsillie James.

1881 John BALLSILLIE has been linked to 1901-1906 Balsillie John, and
1881 Eveline BALSILLIE has been linked to 1901-1906 Balsillie Eva

There appears to be some typo in dates of your previous post:
A) "John and Adelaide(Rowand) were married in 1867 with Agnes, Emily,Eveline, Beatrice, Mabel, Hugh, George, James Allen Rolwand Balsillie Born 1976" - As his parents married in 1867, and he is not listed in the 1881, 1891, 1901, nor 1911 census, then is he a son of John and Adelaide?
B) "Adelaide died in 1988" - As John is a widow in 1901, then did Adelaide died in 1888 ?

Cheers,

Hi Alain,
Sorry I was rushing to send the reply last night.

Adelaide Balsillie died on Nov. 3, 1882.Ref: canadagenweb.org ( a picture of their tomstone )

James A R Balsillie is listed on the 1891 Census age 14 with his parents. In 1881 he is also listed as age 4. He started working for The Hudson's Bay Co. on June 1, 1895 Ref: Hudson's Bay Employee Bio Sheets at the on-line Manitoba Archives. Hudson's Bay sent him to Fort Rae, Fort Nelson ,Fort Liard, Fort Providence, and Fort Resolution. One Weekend I paid to check out Winnipeg Free Press Archives and it seemes John Balsillie is a very important founding father of our city. I beleive he is the ansistor of the Blackberry mogul Jim Balsillie in Ontario.

Thank you for making me do my homework!
On a special note to Dan: the churches tried to take over a bit in around 1900, They told my grandmother it was better to take care of things with them then with the government. So I believe that is why so many things are NOT Registered with Vital Statics. WE NEED TO GET THE CHURCHES TO COUGH UP!

Beth,
Sorry to take so long to get back to you but it was a nice warm sunny day here yesterday and....
I DID note that there were two separate Balsillie families and set about originally to add links to the one family you seemed to be most interested in...thus my comment "Linked what I could easily see"

I have now revisited and added links (again please note easily see) to the second Balsillie family.
These include;
Hugh Blanchard Balsillie - MB birth registration 1882-001058
Beatrice Annette Balsillie - MB birth registration 1885-004674 and MB narriage registration 1908-003191 to a George Alexander Anthony on 05 Aug 1908 and;
John Balsillie - MB birth registration 1888-003137

I did NOT link the senior John Balsillie death registration of 1906 as MB Vital statistics lists the age as only 46 rather than 66. This is likely a Vital Statistics error but I will leave that to you to sort out.

I did some Latter Day Saints searches and find John Balsillie in St Paul - Ward 5 Ramsey, Minnisota in 1910 U.S. Census (married to an Ida - living with the in-laws); and Ramsay, Minnisota in 1920 U.S. Census (married to Ida S.) and probably Houston, Harris County, Texas in 1930 U.S. Census stating immigration in 1907.

I also found Hugh Balsillie in Seattle, King County, Washington (state) in 1930 U.S. Census (married to Martha (age 39) with children Dougla (sp? age 13) and Norma A (age 5) Immigration listed as 1924.

Cheers

Dan
